Shampoo For Dogs : Best Dog Shampoo for Flea & Tick

Dog Shampoo for Fleas

Flea shampoo is the best type of shampoo to kill colonies of fleas that are living in the fur. This type of dog shampoo is the first step to getting rid of those nasty creatures. Following the flea shampoo treatment, it is best to clean the whole house very well and to get rid of the fleas in that environment also.

What Types of Flea Shampoos are There?

There are 3 types:

  • Pesticide Free - No pesticide, mostly all natural ingredients.
  • Pesticide - Use of pesticides and other chemicals to kill fleas and larvae.
  • Medicated - Use of pharmaceutical products monitored and controlled by the FDA in which a prescription is needed.

Focus On Felines® Hydro-Safe Shampoo

Flea Shampoo for CATSFinally, a safer alternative. Ingredients of lavender and chamomile cat safe hydrosols work together to make a happier and healthier coat and skin. Gently massage this shampoo into a lather at the base of the tail and around the neck of your cat. Fleas will automatically try to "out run" the shampoo and will try to find safe haven in the tail or on the head. Once you have the tail and neck areas lathered, begin on the back working your way down the belly, legs and feet. Let the shampoo sit for 30-60 seconds. Rinse the shampoo and repeatif necessary. This shampoo will not wash off topical flea treatments. Fleas like to hang out in the places on your cat where they will be hard to reach such as on the back, near the tail, under mats and on the head. Biodegradable, non-toxic, cruelty and paraben free.

How Long Does it Take for Flea Shampoo to Work?

Flea Shampoo typically starts killing fleas within 1-5 minutes depending on the type of shampoo. It is best to leave the flea shampoo on the dog for 10-15 minutes depending on sensitivity. Leaving the shampoo on the dog for that length of time will smother all of the remaining fleas that are deep in the fur. DO NOT GET IN EYES, EARS OR MOUTH.

How Often Can You Bath a Dog in Flea Shampoo?

It is best to give your dog a bath no more than once a week. The fur of a dog has many important oils that are needed to keep their skin under the fur from getting dry. If a dog is washed too much, it will lead to medical issues and could lead to infection. You can wash your dog more than once a week if he tends to jump in the mud or get into a mess from time to time.
